About

aboutFor 63 years, Williams has been meeting the needs of the community in the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions for hardware, lumber, building materials, millwork, masonry and more. The Williams family and staff are committed to providing unsurpassed excellence in service, quality & price, seven days a week, at their nine locations throughout the Hudson Valley. Stan Williams first started Williams Lumber in 1946, when he purchased the Gibson Lumber Company on East Market Street in Rhinebeck, NY. In 1963, the company expanded to two locations when it purchased the Salt Point Supply Company in Salt Point, NY.

In 1968, 22 years after it was purchased, the existing Rhinebeck store was closed, and a new lumberyard was constructed north of Rhinebeck on Route 9. The new building provided 5500 sq. ft. of retail space. By 1980, business had grown substantially and it was necessary to undertake a major renovation to double the store size to 13,000 sq. ft. Five years later, the Rhinebeck store was again expanded to 28,000 sq. ft. designated as an Ace store of the future.

Williams added a third location in 1989 when it purchased the Greenport Building Supply Company south of Hudson, NY. This new location experienced a complete renovation and expansion.

From 1990-92, the Rhinebeck store was once again updated to its existing layout. New display fixtures were added, and a great deal of additional inventory was added to provide a tremendous selection of merchandise for our customers. The store is now the largest independent home center in the area.

aboutIn 1993, Williams jumped to five locations when it purchased both Bry Dain Lumber Company stores, a large store in Hopewell Junction, NY, which was expanded and renovated, and a small store in Highland, NY, which could not be expanded and was soon closed in 1995.

In 1996 Owner and President Sandy Williams was named “Lumber Person of the Year” by the Northeastern Retail Lumberman’s Association.

In 1998, Williams purchased the Tannersville Supply Company in Tannersville, NY, bringing the number of stores again to five. The store was quickly expanded to almost 7000 sq. ft. and completely renovated – a beautiful addition to Williams’ growing family of stores.

A year later, Williams added a sixth location in Red Hook, NY. This new store, known as Williams Express at 2900 sq. ft., became Williams Lumber’s first “hardware only” store with an amazing amount of inventory neatly held in a small space.

In 2002, Sandy Williams, Owner and President of Williams Lumber and Home Centers, was named “Dutchess County’s 2002 Business Person of the Year” by the Poughkeepsie Journal. By June of that year, Williams Lumber expanded yet again to their High Falls location in Ulster County. Formerly the Cross Lumber store, their 8,000 square foot building became the seventh store for Williams.

In June of 2005, Williams opened its first site dedicated exclusively to kitchens, baths and windows. Their Williams Design Center is located in the heart of beautiful Millbrook area. There, customers can view complete kitchen setups in a spacious environment. In addition, the Millbrook location offers specialty event and demonstration opportunities with a fully functional service kitchen. Homeowners, builders and designers alike can speak with their home remodeling experts in a relaxed atmosphere or consult directly with one of the many Williams in-house designers. The Williams Millbrook Design Center is another example of Williams pledge to offer the finest products and best customer service in the Hudson Valley.

To further serve their customers, Winter 2008 saw the opening of their ninth location in Hyde Park, NY, a 10,000 square ft. full-service home center in the former Champion Factory Outlet in Hyde Park Plaza.

Today Williams Lumber & Home Centers employs 260 associates and serves contractors and homeowners in Ulster, Dutchess, Greene and Columbia counties. In addition to their experienced associates, Williams Lumber is operated by three Williams family members: Sandy, President; Kelly, Vice President – Contractor Sales and Kim, Vice President – Retail Operations. In 2008, like her father before her, Kim was honored with the coveted “Lumber Person of the year” award.
